Our comprehensive assessments are designed to evaluate the health and performance of your SQL Server, identifying major and minor weak points that need to be addressed including relevant backups for your needs. By identifying weakness we/you can optimize the performance of slow areas or secure vulnerabilities ensuring your databases run safely and smoothly and can be scaled for future growth.

Finding your server weaknesses is the first step in fixing them.

What can our assessment help you discover:

  • Identifying vulnerabilities: A SQL assessment can help identify security vulnerabilities in the database. This includes identifying inadequate user access controls, and other security weaknesses that can leave the database vulnerable to attacks.
  • Performance issues: Databases can become slow due to various reasons like database design issues, outdated hardware, or inefficient queries. A SQL performance assessment can help identify and resolve these issues, thus improving the overall performance of the database.
  • Future planning: SQL assessments can provide insights into the scalability and maintainability of the database. This can help organizations plan for future growth and ensure that their database infrastructure is prepared for any future needs.

What we can help eliminate through an assessment/remediation:

  • Slow response times: Poorly performing databases can lead to slow response times, causing frustration for users and affecting the productivity of the organization.
  • Downtime: As performance issues in a database escalate, it may eventually lead to system crashes or outages, causing significant downtime for the organization.
  • Cost: Inefficient databases require more resources to maintain and operate, which can lead to increased costs for an organization. We’ve worked with clients who were able to downsize the cost of the licensing cost of their SQL Server after one of our SQL Assessments.

There are several considerations for this SQL service

You want to identify any issues or flaws in the SQL Server setup.

You need help not just finding the problems, but help fixing the problems as well.

All best practice maintenance jobs should be set up on the server or modified to fit your environment. This includes transaction log backups so that you can get a point in time recovery in the event of a system failure.

You want to build a relationship with a vendor you can trust.

We can help you reach any goal.

SQL service

This is what our process typically looks like:

Project Kick-Off Call

To be scheduled within 4 days of mutual acceptance of this agreement, within 4 days of the start date if the start date is not immediate. This kick off meeting will be done over Teams, Zoom, or equivalent.

Step 1 – Establish a Monitoring Baseline

The first step involves an initial baseline assessment of the SQL Server, and the installation of a monitoring database and a monitoring script as part of the Database Health Monitor application. The monitoring may add about 3% load to the overall SQL Server, and will provide data that will be used later to determine the areas with performance issues.

Step 2 – Evaluation of Results and System Configuration Changes (remediation)

After Database Health Monitor has been running for 3 to 6 days, the results of the monitoring will be evaluated, and a presentation of database findings will be created. This presentation of findings will include specific changes that should or could be done to improve the overall performance, scalability and stability of the SQL Server.

During step 2, changes that can be done by Stedman Solutions in the project scope will be performed. Changes that are larger or longer term than can be accomplished in the initial assessment will be included in the presentation of findings, including time estimates to remedy those findings.

Step 3 – Final Presentation

To be scheduled about 14 to 16 days after the Project Kick-Off. This presentation will made over a Teams, Zoom or equivalent call and can be recorded if requested.

Once all the results are processed and the presentation is ready, this presentation will be made on the specific details that are causing performance, scalability and stability issues on the SQL Server. Findings, and options to solve the issues will be presented.

What our clients had to say about this service:

“Unlike a Typical Consultant”

We are moving our SaaS offering from one cloud provider to another and took the opportunity to evaluate our database performance and security ahead of the move. Steve and team worked with us to do an assessment of current state and suggest changes that would both make the move easier as well as improve the performance of our overall application. The team is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. What I liked most is that unlike a typical consultant, they did not just make recommendations, present them and leave; they worked with us to implement the recommendations in our test and production environments and followed up to make sure they had the desired effects. We will be working with Steve’s team in the future to ensure our database is always in tip top shape.
